Free Things to do in the Inner Harbour

The Inner Harbour in Victoria is full of fun and free things to do! Victoria is a breathtakingly beautiful city year round with numerous attractions and places to visit and for the penny saver - many of them are free. If you happen to be downtown close to the Empress hotel, you are in walking distance of several places you can see, for free.

The Inner Harbour – There are many things to see in downtown Victoria all within walking distance from the Inner Harbour. You can walk along the causeway and listen to live music and browse all kinds of home made trinkets and art on display or enjoy all the different boats moored in the harbour.

From September 4th – 6th, you can take in our annual Classic Boat Festival in the Inner Harbour. You will see all kinds of boats from yachts to work-boats and everything in between. You are also only blocks away from the Royal British Columbia Museum and Thunderbird Park.  The park is home to many totem poles and other First Nation monuments. You may also come across all the Provincial Shields and Coats of Arms for all of Canada on display outdoors. Makes a great photo op to send the folks back home.

Across the street from the museum are the Parliament buildings and grounds. The Parliament buildings and grounds in Victoria, B.C. are among the most beautiful in the world, even when compared to national capitals. Designed by 25-year-old Francis Rattenbury and built between 1893 and 1898, the Parliament Buildings (also called the Legislature) are an architectural gem.

Further on you will find our infamous Fisherman’s Wharf. Here you will find many colorful little houseboats and a great selection of food in you are so inclined. You can wander down on the docks with your lunch or buy fresh seafood right off the boats or just check out the moored pleasure vessels and float homes or watch the fishing vessels unload their catch of the day!

You can spend the whole day wandering around the sites on the Inner Harbour and never get bored and it doesn’t have to cost you a dime. Bring a nice blanket to sit on and a full water bottle and enjoy all that Victoria’s Inner harbour has to offer, for free!
